We are all witnessing with pain and sadness the developments across the country and across the whole world in response to the senseless death of George Floyd.
The spontaneous rise in protests is a cry for social justice and equality. Pent-up fear, frustration and anger are bubbling up even more as we deal with the significant ways in which COVID-19 is disrupting our communities. It is heartbreaking to see it ravage lower-income communities and people of color even more disproportionately.
It is unfortunate that protests are morphing into chaos and violence, mayhem and destruction. The acts of people willing to exploit this human pain and the desire of a few to subvert the cry for justice should not distract us. We must condemn all senseless acts of violence and yet stand side-by-side with what is causing the protests in the first place. The cry for equality and the call for social justice.
No matter our religious beliefs or thoughts on how we human beings showed up on this planet, we can all agree that we are more than our place of birth, our ethnicity, the color of our skin, or whom we choose to love. As a society, we have a long way to go before we completely root out racism, discrimination and bias from our conscious and subconscious actions.
Appriss was founded to pursue a very noble mission of helping protect people. We believe that we are one family and one community. We do not try to look past diversity of cultures, backgrounds, thought processes and experiences; we actively seek them out because we believe that it is the richness of our individual and collective experiences that makes us stronger. In the work we do as a company, we are in quest for a better world: by serving victims of crime, helping root out addiction, helping patients in need and keeping communities safe. We stand today to help victims of all forms of crime, including social injustice. Our hearts go out to the citizens of Louisville, Minneapolis, Los Angeles in particular and all other communities where our employees live and work. We feel your pain, fear, anger and frustration. Today, Appriss will be making a donation to the Equal Justice Initiative, an organization committed to ending racial injustice and protecting human rights.
If any Appriss employees feel the need for additional support during these trying times, please know that we have company resources available to you through our Employee Assistance Program and HR teams.
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “No culture can live if it attempts to be exclusive.”
We are committed to making sure that Appriss is a place where you can feel safe, respected and celebrated for who you are and what you bring to our community. We will support each other and come out of these trying times as one team. We will start an even stronger dialogue around celebrating diversity, rising beyond what separates us and becoming and remaining one community. ONE APPRISS.
