CONNECTICUT SAVIN PROGRAM MANAGER VALINA CARPENTER
Appriss’ flagship solution, VINE® (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) is the nation’s leading automated victim notification system. VINE is used across 48 states, providing millions of Americans the peace of mind they deserve.
In each state where VINE operates, a Program Manager serves as the liaison between Appriss and their community. VINE Program Managers are the main point of contact for all VINE-related questions, concerns, or needs that citizens may have, and are responsible for ensuring their community is knowledgeable about the VINE services available to them.
Program Managers are imperative to the success of VINE, as they provide Appriss invaluable feedback and suggestions from the field so we can be confident the service offers a streamlined, user-friendly experience and continues to be a trusted safety net for victims.
In Connecticut, VINE is also known as CT SAVIN (Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification). Get to know our CT SAVIN Program Manager, Valina Carpenter, Deputy Director of the Office of Victim Services in the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch. She also serves as the Secretary of the VINE Advisory Committee (VAC), an important group of advisors that helps mentor their fellow Program Managers as well as provide direct guidance and feedback to Appriss on how we can continue to improve and innovate the services we offer. Our Client Relationship Manager for the state of Connecticut, Chelsey Owen, has been continually impressed by Valina: "She projects a warm, cheerful attitude, and I truly enjoy partnering with her in supporting Connecticut's crime victims. Though her responsibilities are vast, she is a dedicated Program Manager. I have enormous respect for Valina, and the pride she takes in her work is inspiring."
After our video interview, we had a few more questions for Valina. Learn more about her and some of her favorite things!
Where did you grow up? Snow country! Just outside of Syracuse, NY.
What are your hobbies? Golf, reading, and I'm an avid (or rabid) college basketball fan.
What is your favorite food? I love Spanish food, especially paella. There are so many varieties that I could eat it every day. And on my trip to Spain, I did!
Favorite sports team? Syracuse Orange basketball. If you grow up anywhere near Syracuse, you have to be a Syracuse basketball fan. (I guess you could be a football fan, but you'd be disappointed more often than not.)
Favorite holiday? Halloween, but not necessarily because of the holiday itself. I love the fall; it's my favorite season.
Where is your favorite place to travel? Barcelona was my favorite place so far.
What is your dream vacation? I would usually say anywhere near the ocean in the fall, but right now I would love to visit my family in Syracuse. With the travel restrictions, I have not seen them in almost a year!
What books are you reading right now? The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead.
What TV shows are you watching? I just caught up on The Queen's Gambit and I'm eagerly awaiting the return of Ozark.
Do you have any pets? Ali, a pit bull named after Louisville's own Muhammad Ali (pictured left), and two cats, Parker and Hunter.
Favorite quote? "Speak your mind, even if your voice shakes." I had this quote in my office when I was a court-based advocate and I always used it to inspire me to speak up. Many years later, when I was out of the court setting and doing administrative work, a former client contacted me and told me whenever she was feeling unsure of something, she would remember that quote.
